DMH recognizes both DSM-IV and ICD-9 codes (International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision).

The terminology used here is from the DSM-IV Multiaxial diagnostic system (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition). That system uses five axes or classes as follows:
Represents Clinical Disorders, most V-codes, and conditions that need clinical attention.
Represents Personality Disorders and Mental Retardation
Represents general medical conditions.
Represents Psychosocial and Environmental problems
Represents global assessment of functioning scale
